The J.F. Willumsen Museum is dedicated to the work of Danish Artist Jens Ferdinand Willumsen as well as housing his personal art collection, library, and archives.
J.F. Willumsen (1863-1958) grew up in Copenhagen, where he attended different institutions including the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, before completing his artistic training at Kunstnernes Studieskole - a private Copenhagen art school - in 1885. Willumsen developed his own visionary and original style inspired by the leading artistic movements of his day, including symbolism, fauvism, and expressionism. Even as a young artist he was considered a controversial, ground-breaking figure in the Danish art world, a position he maintained for most of his long artistic career that spanned seven decades and included painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphic art, photography, and architecture.
